Oakapple Renewable Energy Ltd were contracted by a National food retailer, who prefer to remain anonymous, in March 2018 to design and install solar PV installations on an initial 6 sites.
These sites were chosen for fast track because they had power supply shortages and the designed solar PV installations would drastically help the summertime loads when the chillers, freezers and ambient coolers were having to work at their hardest.
30 KW systems were deemed the most efficient from a cost and benefit point of view as the client can still benefit from deemed export and the system size fitted both the stores available roof space and the energy peak load profile in terms of load shedding from the grid at times of high summer daytime temperatures.
On average the projects have an internal rate of return of over 22% and will not only produce a combined 162,000 kwh of clean green electricity per year but also offset 56,538KG of CO2.
The panels chosen for the sites were Hanwha QCells due to their excellent performance and warranty as well as their above industry average UK and EU customer support availability and timely deliveries, along with Solis inverters, due to their available 4MPPT configuration which gives enormous flexibility in the design element.
The Oakapple installation teams delivered each site in a maximum of 3 days with zero disruption to the stores including complying with stringent H&S guidelines and store protocol.
